Basic Quarter-Square Triangles 2 at a Time
Math:
Add 1¼" to the desired Finished size of the QSTs.
Example: You need 3" Finished QSTs. Add 1¼", the measurement you need is 4¼".
Cutting Instructions:
Cut one square each of two different fabrics using the measurement you calculated above.
Sewing Instructions:
1. Make HSTs
a. On the back of one of these squares of fabric, draw a single diagonal line.
b. Stack the two squares, right sides together.
c. Sew a seam ¼" on either side of the drawn line.
d. Cut the two halves apart on the drawn line.
e. Open each HST unit, press the seam allowances to one side, and trim the dog-ears.
2. Make QSTs
a. On the back of one of these HSTs, draw a single diagonal line which crosses the previous seam.
b. Stack these two HSTs, right sides together, and so that the seams nest. Make sure the HSTs are turned 180° from each other, so that the same colors are NOT laying directly on top of one another.
c. Sew a seam ¼" on either side of the drawn line.
d. Cut the two halves apart on the drawn line.
e. Open each QST unit, press the seam allowances to one side, and trim the dog-ears.
