Desert Garden Sampler Pattern
Stitch this little garden sampler, which is focused on the dry arid beauty of the desert. With rich earthy ochre colours and the unexpected blooms of dozens of graceful drought resistant native plants, a desert garden can be beautiful, inventive and dramatic! There are many challenges to growing such a ravishing desert garden but the effects can be stunning. In this imaginary garden, you can see the early morning gardener under the shade of her umbrella and Acadia Tree, hand watering her precious plants. Although there is drip irrigation throughout most of the beds, her yellow desert marigold, and purple coneflowers are given some extra attention. Above this scene, a garland of morning glories leads to the iguana and prairie primroses. Another small desert scene shows the extended desert as part of the garden. A row of stylized desert lupine lies just in front of a quail family running across the hot sand. Then, some indian blanket flowers or firewheel is blooming right under the scene with the adobe walls and garden gate under the acacia trees. In this sampler you’ll practice some specialty stitches, like the diamond ray stitches, plait, double herringbone, and double cross eyelets. Take some time to enjoy the beauty of this dramatic desert oasis! - Thea
