Victorian Pincushion Leaflet

Designer Thea Deuck describes this design beautifully:

Pincushion Top, Pinkeep, and 'Strawberry' Emery - Sewing was a talent required of every woman before the 20th century and a major part of a woman’s work was spent weaving, cutting and stitching linens and clothing for their families. They created dozens of sewing tools to make the job easier. This project features a Victorian-style pincushion replica, a copy of an antique spooled pincushion dated circa the mid to late 1800s. I’ve used delicious silks and overdyes of willow greens, fuschia, antique gold, and rose, with some sparkling beadwork. The base is about 6.5" tall and is made of wood with a hand-rubbed wax finish (it looks old and wonderful). It has wooden pegs, a turned spindle column and then another round platform for the design. I’ve included several other stitched pieces; a typical pinkeep with a different design on each side, and embroidered strawberry emery. Both items will hang from the pincushion with overdyed silk ribbons. This project will result in a beautiful and practical needlework tool that could have been used by the people who lived in the Victorian era. What a wonderful place to reach through the centuries to our shared needlework past with our needlework sisters!
